Ciar Cullen grew up in Baltimore, Maryland--Charm City--and has lived a charmed life. She worked for a decade as an archaeologist, summering on digs in Greece. Ciar has a strong interest in history of all periods. She worked for years in academic nonfiction publishing and is currently a bureaucrat at a prominent college. Ciar took up writing in 2004 to scratch an itch brought on by years of reading fantasy and romance fiction. She submitted her first book on a whim, and has not turned back. Her favorite authors are Terry Pratchett, Mark Twain, and Roger Zelazny. Ciar lives in New Jersey with her wonderful husband and magical cat.
FORTHCOMING
I'm delighted to announce that my novella Fish Out of Water has been accepted at Samhain Publishing. A washed up baseball player and a mermaid disguised as an ichthyologist burn it up on an exotic island. Look for it in 2012!
GREAT REVIEWS in for STEAMSIDE CHRONICLES

From Jeannie Lin: "Egyptology, steampunk, and time travel? I'm in! This was such a special book and an absolute surprise. The premise was so unique, a great twist on steampunk. It has a world and characters and dystopian/utopian feel that's all its own.
Wonderful speculative fiction. You'll find yourself trying to figure out the world along with Fenwick (Emily). The absolute beauty of this story is how it's written with so much ATTITUDE and cleverness. I loved Ciar Cullen's writing. Every scene was a treat. The emotional development between Fen and Jack is the most heart-rending and realistic I've read in a long time -- despite the very "unreal" setting. The romance will remind you of how vulnerable and obsessive and sometimes silly new love can be.
The story really defies description. Highly recommend this for readers of science fiction, steampunk, or anyone who likes to be a little adventurous in their reading. I can't wait to read more from this author."
